Family, friends, and members of the East Houston community are mourning the tragic loss of Louis Erebia, 50, who was killed during a violent incident in North Houston on June 6, 2026.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident unfolded in the Airline Drive and I-610 area following an earlier reported carjacking involving Erebia’s son at a nearby gas station. Authorities say Erebia responded to the situation and located the stolen vehicle, attempting to intervene in an effort to protect his family and resolve the matter.

Investigators report that the situation escalated when the suspect vehicle rammed Erebia’s car during the confrontation. Erebia then attempted to flee the scene, but was later struck by gunfire and suffered fatal injuries.

Despite emergency response efforts, Louis Erebia was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second individual who was with him was also injured but survived and is expected to recover.

Police confirmed that multiple individuals were detained at the scene in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. However, no arrests have been announced, and authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the full sequence of events.
