Family, friends, and members of the Spokane Valley community are mourning the loss of Jessica Guilford, 35, who died following a head-on collision on State Route 290 (East Trent Avenue) on the evening of June 6, 2026.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:08 p.m. near North Coleman Road. Investigators report that an 18-year-old driver was traveling eastbound when his vehicle left its lane of travel, crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck Guilford’s vehicle head-on.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided immediate aid. Jessica Guilford sustained critical injuries and was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later died from her injuries.
The 18-year-old driver was also transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center for treatment. Authorities initially described the incident as a hit-and-run but later clarified that it was not. Investigators have stated that drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors, and the cause of the crash remains under active investigation.
The collision resulted in the closure of SR 290 between Lilly Road and Dora Road for several hours as troopers conducted an investigation and crews cleared the roadway.
