Family, friends, and members of the Sanford community are mourning the loss of Deion Fields, 32, who was killed during a violent overnight shooting on June 7, 2026, in Sanford, Florida.
According to the Sanford Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:20 a.m. following a 911 call reporting a shooting with injuries near Historic Goldsboro Boulevard and Mangoustine Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound, who was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Shortly thereafter, a second 911 call directed officers to Historic Goldsboro Boulevard and Pomegranate Avenue, where they discovered another victim who had sustained fatal gunshot injuries. Despite rapid response efforts from law enforcement and emergency personnel, Deion Fields was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fields is being remembered by loved ones as a life lost too soon, leaving family and friends in deep grief as the community comes to terms with the sudden violence.
Investigators are actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the two shootings. Authorities confirmed that a person of interest was located nearby and taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. Officials stated it is still unclear whether the two incidents are connected, and emphasized that there is no current indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith extended condolences to the affected families and urged anyone with information to assist investigators as they work to bring clarity to the case.
